Marine Boat Bilge Pumps

Marine boats are expensive toys that big boys would love to own. Aside from really nice and costly sports cars, guys would definitely want to have their own boat. But owning a boat isn’t that simple.

Manual Bilge Pumps

Just because electric bilge pumps and automatic bilge pumps are usually installed in boats does not mean there are no longer any use for manual bilge pumps. On the contrary, in fact, at least two more manual bilge pumps are advised to be present in boats other than the automatic or electric bilge pumps already installed.

It is even advisable to have the pump near the cock pit so that while steering the boat, you could still pump bilge out of your boat.

This is important because you will never know when your automatic pumps will lose their batteries or when the pumps will break down. Also, it cannot always be determined when your boat will suffer damage that will allow too much water to leak in your boat. Manual bilge pumps are backup pumps when your installed electric pumps don’t work.

When more water than the pump could handle would leak in the hull, your boat is at risk of sinking. Having a manual bilge pump will help you pump out the water out of the boat. But, the problem with manual bilge pumps is that they could only suck out a small volume of water as compared to automatic bilge pumps.

This means that if you are riding a huge boat, manual bilge pumps might not be enough to keep your boat floating. It may be enough to keep the vehicle floating until it reaches the docks or the shore but relying on manual bilge pumps alone would definitely be exhausting.

You can’t possible monitor the bilge level in your boat all the time. Actually, if your boat is new, you wouldn’t check for bilge at all, this is especially true for newbie boat owners. And when your boat keeps afloat for a long time, you will even totally neglect to check for any leaks or any collected water in the hull.

This is sometimes the reason for boats sinking. Simply because owners neglect to check the level of bilge in their boat, too much water leaks in and collected up to the point where the level of water is more than what the boat could support.

To avoid the bilge level to rise in your boat’s hull, it is important to install bilge pumps. And to make things more convenient by not requiring you to check your hull all the time, you could install an automatic bilge pump.
